A Big-Name Fitness Brand Has Officially Closed Its Walnut Creek Studio
SoulCycle has officially closed its Walnut Creek studio, ending nearly a decade of rides at Broadway Plaza.
The boutique fitness chain’s location at 116 Broadway Lane, near the Macy’s parking garage entrance, shuttered on Sunday, June 14.
The Walnut Creek studio first opened in August 2016, bringing SoulCycle’s music-driven indoor cycling classes to a 57-bike studio in the heart of downtown. For years, it was one of the East Bay’s most recognizable boutique fitness destinations, with a devoted base of riders and instructors.
News of the closure began circulating earlier this month after members received notice that the final day would be June 14. Riders and former instructors shared tributes online in the days leading up to the studio’s final classes.
SoulCycle has not publicly given a specific reason for the Walnut Creek closure. The shutdown is part of a broader round of cuts for the Equinox-owned company, which has also recently closed studios in La Jolla and Manhattan Beach, along with locations in Denver, New York City and Miami Beach.
The closure leaves SoulCycle without an East Bay location. The company’s remaining Bay Area studios are in San Francisco, Palo Alto and Larkspur.
For Walnut Creek riders, it is the end of a long-running fitness fixture at Broadway Plaza — and another reminder of how quickly the boutique workout landscape continues to change.
