Danville is Getting a New Nordstrom Store, But It’s Not What You’d Expect

A new Nordstrom is headed to Danville, but shoppers should not expect racks of designer clothes, shoe departments, beauty counters, or the familiar multi-story department-store experience.

Instead, Nordstrom Local Danville will be a small, service-only outpost at 600 Sycamore Valley Road West in the Livery Shopping Center. The approximately 1,214-square-foot location is taking over a former Pure Barre space and is designed to make online shopping a little easier for people in Danville, Alamo, Blackhawk, San Ramon, and beyond.

The store’s current listing says it is scheduled to open July 9.

So what exactly will be inside?

Nordstrom Local is essentially a neighborhood hub for customers who already shop through Nordstrom.com or NordstromRack.com. Customers will be able to pick up online orders, make returns from either Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack, bring in items for alterations, and pick up complimentary Nordstrom gift boxes for qualifying purchases.

It will also accept new and gently used clothing and shoes for donation to local nonprofit partners.

What it will not have is a traditional sales floor.

That makes the new location quite different from the full Nordstrom department store at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, which is still the closest place for East Bay shoppers to browse Nordstrom merchandise in person.

Nordstrom has been expanding the smaller-format Local concept in California as more customers do their shopping online but still want an easy place nearby for pickups, returns, tailoring, and other services. Danville will be the company’s sixth Nordstrom Local location in California, joining sites in San Francisco, Brentwood, Newport Beach, Manhattan Beach, and Fillmore.

We’ll check it out when the store opens. Make sure to join our free 925 News newsletter for updates.
