Kaiwa Sushi In Walnut Creek Closes Permanently

Sad news for the Walnut Creek food scene; Kaiwa Sushi on Locust Street appears to have closed permanently. The windows of the store are covered with black plastic, the front patio has been removed, and the restaurant’s website is no longer online.

It’s a sad loss for downtown WC. Kaiwa sushi was one of our top picks for inexpensive sushi in the East Bay. You could get a California roll for about $6, which is way less than many other stores charge.

Here’s a video I made about it several years ago:

We also always loved Kaiwa’s inexpensive lunch bento boxes, and their overall relaxed and chill attitude.

We visited Kaiwa several times recently, and saw that it was closed in the middle of the day–not a good sign. It’s sad to see that the restaurant has formally closed.

If you’re looking for sushi right by Kaiwa’s former location, check out Toyosu, which is just three storefronts away.
