It Will Soon Cost More Than $12 to Cross the Golden Gate Bridge

It’s bad news for cash-strapped Bay Area commuters; the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, which runs the Golden Gate Bridge and other services connecting San Francisco and the North Bay, has just approved a major increase in the toll for cars crossing the bridge.

Right now, FasTrak customers pay $8.75 to cross the bridge, and people on an invoice pay $9.50.

The new change will increase those rates to $11.25 and $12.25, respectively.

That means that if somebody is commuting to work every workday, crossing the bridge, they could pay as much as $245 per month for their tolls.

The good news for commuters is that the increases are gradual. They will go up by $0.50 at a time between now and 2028.

So, you have a little bit of time to adjust to these new, higher toll rates. That said, the first increase is coming quite soon on July 1.

Be ready to budget for these increases if you’re a frequent commuter, and get ready for some more grumbling as the cost of living around here just keeps going up.
