Driving through the Lafayette, California hills this week, we witnessed a rare and beautiful sight. In the early morning hours, just as the sun was rising, a beautiful fog bank completed surrounded the base of Mount Diablo.
The fog bank was even more dramatic because there was also low cloud cover right above the mountain. When the fog bank and clouds were both illuminated by the rising sun, they served to perfectly frame Mount Diablo between two stark, horizontal lines of cloud.
Fog banks are rare in LaMorinda, and even rarer in the Tri-Valley area. So witnessing this particular moment was quite a special treat, and one that we (of course) had to document in a photo.
Mount Diablo is no stranger to beautiful vistas, though. We saw an amazing rainbow in nearly the same spot earlier this year. And of course, every couple of years the mountain does its Swiss Alps impression with a tiny bit of snow on top.
