The Best Breakfast Places in Lafayette

Lafayette, California, has a wide variety of breakfast options. Some of them are tucked away, so it’s helpful to have a local perspective on where to go.

Heads up: Most places in Lafayette are sit-down restaurants, even for breakfast, which means you’ll want to budget time for a more leisurely visit. You’ll also want to budget overall, as some of these places can get quite expensive!

That said, if you’re looking for a classy and delicious breakfast or brunch—and you’re not in a huge hurry—Lafayette has some amazing options for you.

The Breakfast Club is one of the newest entrants onto the Lafayette breakfast scene. Located on Mount Diablo Blvd. in the heart of downtown Lafayette, The Breakfast Club at Midtown serves huge portions and offers a very classy and creative breakfast and brunch menu.

Dishes like eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros, and other hearty breakfasts are the stars here. You can also get mimosas and freshly squeezed orange juice.

The Breakfast Club at Midtown is a great place to go with kids. I took my son, and he got a gigantic Mickey Mouse pancake as big as his head!

It is on the pricey side, with most entrées running about $20. However, the portions are large. They don’t take reservations, and on busy days, the wait can be long, so make sure to leave plenty of time.

La Chataigne

La Chataigne is a bit of an enigma. It’s one of the best French cafés in the East Bay, located in the Fiesta Square shopping center.

The restaurant is tiny and has relatively limited hours. There’s no indoor seating, and the overall experience is very… French.

If you’re willing to wait in line for your pastries and don’t mind eating at one of the outdoor tables or taking them back to your car, La Chataigne offers some of the highest quality and most delicious French pastries I’ve seen anywhere in the Bay Area.

They also sell a variety of imported French products, which makes this a delicious stop as well.

Tutu’s

When Lafayette’s extremely popular Chow restaurant announced it was closing, locals were briefly devastated.

I say briefly because Tutu’s almost immediately stepped in, taking over both the space and nearly the exact same menu.

Their iconic ricotta pancakes are still there, along with delicious bacon and huevos rancheros.

The roaring fireplace in the corner makes for a cozy interior, and there’s plenty of outdoor heated seating as well.

Tutu’s is not as pricey as The Breakfast Club, but it does have a more leisurely pace. Be sure to leave plenty of time for a relaxed and casual breakfast.

Sideboard

Sideboard is a quirky Lafayette classic. It feels like the restaurant your hipster grandma would start.

Between tasty Sightglass coffee drinks, a full menu of salads, entrees and pastries, and some of the region’s best fried chicken, Sideboard is a delicious and classic choice.

Grab your food and take it to the park in front of Sideboard in the winter.
