After Devastating Closure, the Orinda Theatre Just Made an Incredibly Exciting Announcement

After a harrowing week, the Orinda Theatre in Orinda, California, shared incredibly exciting news on its Facebook page.

The theater had suffered a potentially game-ending plumbing issue. Reports to the Bay Area Telegraph indicated that a water main or large pipe had ruptured, flooding portions of the lobby and a storage room beneath the theater.

The theater had to shut down and turned to community members for help.

Thankfully, the theater had an ally—Absolute Plumbing, a plumbing company that stepped in and, according to a newsletter sent to the theater’s subscribers, heroically saved the day.

In just a few short days, the company repaired the core issue, restored water (a necessity in order to reopen), and appeared to have manually dry-vaced out the interior.

On February 3, the theater announced that it would reopen today (February 4, 2025) after only about a week of closure.

The theater will show A Complete Unknown, Flow (a rather ironic choice after the recent plumbing issues and flooding!), and The Brutalist.

Given the historic nature of the theater and the severity of the plumbing issue, this could easily have been a story with an unhappy ending. Many historic institutions would have been forced to close under such circumstances.

We’re incredibly thrilled to see that the theater has weathered this literal flood and is bouncing back so quickly.

Now is the perfect time to book your tickets and support this East Bay institution!
