“Heartbroken and Sad”: Windows of Charming Lafayette Toy Store Smashed as Store is Robbed
LAFAYETTE, CALIFORNIA – We’ve been reporting on an unfortunate crime wave that has been sweeping through the 925 recently. An alert reader wrote in to let us know about yet another unfortunate break-in in the area.
On March 26, Five Little Monkeys toy store in Lafayette posted on their Instagram that their front window had been smashed.
“We’re a bit heartbroken and sad today to report that our Lafayette location was broken into late last night,” the post said.
It shows a badly damaged front window on the store. The store reports that police are involved in the investigation and that they do have surveillance footage, but the owners still describe the incident as a “huge bummer.”

The thieves were apparently there in order to steal Legos. That might seem strange, but Lego sets are expensive and have a high resale value on the black market. In another recent incident, a thief made off with over $20,000 worth of Legos from various Target stores in the area.
We’re officially adding Five Little Monkeys to our list of local businesses affected by crime that you should go and support. As the owners say, “If you happen to visit our Lafayette location… we love a smile and kind words.” The owners described their staff as “a bit shaken up.”
Five Little Monkeys is an awesome toy store and a great asset to the community—and definitely deserves your support.
