Acalanes Student Dies in Terrible Diving Accident While at Beach With Friends

The Lafayette, California community is reeling from a terrible tragedy that claimed the life of a local student.

Acalanes High School junior and football player Amin Noroozi died Thursday following a diving accident at Stinson Beach earlier in the week, according to school officials. He was only 17 years old.

The accident occurred on Sunday when Noroozi and friends were diving into the water. He struck his head, sustained a spinal injury, and was airlifted to a hospital.

Family members reported that he lost feeling in his arms and legs. Despite initial signs of improvement, Noroozi passed away Thursday around 3:30 p.m.

A GoFundMe set up by a family member said that “We share the news of Amin Noroozi’s passing on April 17 with a heavy heart. His legacy of kindness, warmth, and friendship has touched many. Our hearts are with his family, Ofi, Payman and Sahar and his zillion friends.”

Principal Eric Shawn informed the school community of Noroozi’s death, calling it a “sudden loss” and expressing condolences to his family. On Thursday evening, hundreds of students gathered in the school’s front quad to remember Noroozi and support one another.

Students are also reportedly rallying to help Noroozi’s younger sister, who also attends Acalanes.

Counseling and wellness services were made available on campus Friday to assist students coping with the loss.
