Sliver Pizza in Lafayette Just Made a Huge Change to Its Menu

Lafayette, California – It’s a two-for-one deal on news tips! The same reader who wrote in to tell the Bay Area Telegraph about Lafayette’s new ice cream shop The Scoop (you can read our review here) also shared a delicious additional tip with us.

Sliver Pizza, which for years had served only vegetarian pizzas in Fiesta Square in Lafayette, has just made a major change to its menu.

The pizza restaurant has given up on its vegetarian-only direction and is now introducing what they call “protein-style” pizzas.

At first, we thought maybe this was going to mean that the pizzas would have artificial meats, like Impossible chorizo instead of real pepperoni.

But it turns out this is a true pivot in the restaurant’s direction. Sliver is introducing a variety of pies with ingredients like chicken and pepperoni, either served as a basic topping on a cheese pie or paired with extras like BBQ sauce and pineapple.

Sliver has its origins with alumni of Berkeley’s iconic Cheeseboard Pizza. That pizza restaurant is owned by an (anarchist?) worker collective and has been aggressively vegetarian-only for decades.

Sliver mimics the classic style of Cheeseboard Pizza, right down to the Berkeley restaurant’s iconic spicy green sauce. For a while, they also mimicked Cheeseboard’s staunchly vegetarian direction.

Lots of locals in Lafayette found that to be an impediment to ordering from Sliver. Sure, if you love corn and mushroom pizza or you’re an avowed vegetarian, Sliver was a great option. But many people just wanted a pepperoni pizza to serve to their kids.

Sliver appears to be honoring that need with its new direction. You can order their protein-style pies either at the restaurant or via DoorDash for home delivery. They run about $28 for a large pizza, which is pricey but not out of line with other upscale Bay Area pizza places.
