Louis Vuitton in Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek Has Closed Permanently

WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – One of the fanciest retail stores in Walnut Creek, California’s Broadway Plaza shopping center is officially shutting down.

That unfortunate news comes less than two years after the retailer opened. And the closure is a bit suspicious.

The store is Louis Vuitton, a purveyor of high-end handbags. Very high end–their bags can run into the thousands of dollars!

That feels like a potential fit for the very upscale Walnut Creek community. But it was also apparently a magnet for thieves.

In 2023, would-be robbers smashed an SUV into the Louis Vuitton store and tried to make off with handbags. They were foiled by police. But still, the damage–literally and metaphorically–may have been done.

As of today, the signage has been removed from the Walnut Creek store, and its former website shows an error message.

Again, the exact reason for the closure isn’t clear. It’s possible that Louis Vuitton simply wasn’t making enough money in Walnut Creek, or that they’re downsizing for other reasons.

Whatever the true reason, if you want a $3,000 handbag, you’ll have to go elsewhere. Sorry folks.

More Movement at Broadway Plaza

There have been a lot of shake-ups at Broadway Plaza recently!

Last month, we learned that Old Navy would be closing its budget store at Broadway Plaza.

It’s hard to know what to make of the fact that one of the most expensive and one of the least expensive retailers are closing at the same time!

We also learned that Abercrombie will be opening a new store at Broadway Plaza, which feels like a throwback to the 1990s.

On the food front, Original Joe’s is opening a location in the former Stanford’s space. Pinstripes also recently opened at Broadway Plaza.

This happened a little while back, but we still love it, so we’ll highlight it: Cholita Linda has great tacos. And if you’re willing to walk a bit beyond Broadway Plaza itself, you can check out Handel’s—one of the best new ice cream spots in the East Bay.

If you want to extend Dry January a little further into the year, you can also check out Sipeos, a new booze-free bar that just opened at Broadway Plaza.

As you can see, there’s a lot of moving and shaking happening here!
