Rumors Are Swirling That Trader Joe’s in Walnut Creek Is Closing—We Got the Truth
WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Rumors have been spreading throughout the community that the Trader Joe’s in Walnut Creek, California, or Concord, California, is on the verge of closing.
People have been emailing us all week, asking if this is true. Don’t worry–we got the truth for you.
The Rumor
You don’t have to go far to see people discussing the rumor. On one local social network, locals shared that they had heard Trader Joe’s in Walnut Creek was closing to make way for a new apartment building.
“Heard through the grapevine that Trader Joe’s in WC is closing, and a new apartment complex will take its place,” the original post said. “Curious to know if TJ be relocating within town, or if we’ll need to reroute to the Lafayette/Concord/Danville stores.”

The post rapidly provoked a flurry of activity. Over 120 people chimed in, either adding to the rumors or refuting them.
There were a lot of back-and-forth comments, alongside conversations about the challenges of parking at Trader Joe’s. But there wasn’t a lot of definitive information.
We decided to get to the bottom of it here at The Bay Area Telegraph, so we reached out to Trader Joe’s directly to ask if either the Concord or Walnut Creek store was closing.
So, Is it True?
We have great news for Trader Joe’s fans.
Trader Joe’s Public Relations Manager Nakia Rohde told us in an email, “We have no plans to close our store in Walnut Creek or Concord.”

So there you have it, folks—shockingly, you can’t believe everything you read online!
The Trader Joe’s stores in Walnut Creek and Concord seem to be entirely safe.
We do understand, though, how these kinds of rumors can start to spread. Stores like Louis Vuitton, Old Navy, and others have recently shut down in Walnut Creek. And over in Lafayette, we lost a 48-year-old staple of the community.
So it’s understandable that people might hear something about a cherished store closing and freak out just a little bit.
